මාවනැල්ලේ සිට හෙම්මාතගම පාරේ කි.මී. 6ක් ගමන් කරන විට අප පිවිසින්නේ දෙවනගල ගම්මානයටයි. දෙවනගල ප්රසිද්ධ වී තිබෙන්නේ එම පර්වතය මත පිහිටා තිබෙන රජමහා විහාරය නිසයි. ඉබ්බෙකුගේ පිටක් වැනි පර්වතයේ විශාලත්වය අක්කර 72ක්.
විහාර මන්දිරය, දාගැබ, ධර්ම ශාලාව, පැරණි සංඝාවාසය සහ ශෛලමය විහාරයේ නටබුන් සහ පොකුණ ද පිහිටා ඇත්තේ පර්වතයේ උසම කොටසේයි. මෙම පූජනීය ගොඩනැගිලිවලට මඳක් පහළින් අලුත් නුවර දැඩිමුණ්ඩ දෙවියන් වෙනුවෙන් කැපවූ කුඩා දෙවොලක් දැකගත හැකියි.
මේ ගල්පව්වට පිවිසීමට ගලේම කොටා සකස්කළ පියගැට තිබෙනවා. පර්වතය මතට උඩුකුරු කළ බේසමක පතුලේ සිටින්නෙකුට මෙන් හාත්පසින් ඉහළ නැගී හතරකෝරළයේ කඳුවැටිත් මාඔය නිම්නයේ කෙත්වතුත් මනාව දැකගත හැකියි. බලන, දෙකිඳ, බෙල්ලාකඩ. අල්පිටිය, සැලව, ඌරාකන්ද ආදී කඳු ඒ අතර කැපී පෙනෙනවා. එළඟපිටිය, අම්බලකන්ද, රාස්සවකන්ද ඇතුළු දොළොස්බාගේ කඳු වළා අතර සැඟව තිබෙන අන්දමත් අලංකාර දසුනක් මවනවා.
පළමුවන විමලධර්මසූරිය රජු පිහිට වූ සෙල්ලිපියක් පර්වතය මත කොටා තිබෙනවා. එම පර්වත ලිපියේ දෙවනගල රතනාලංකාර හිමියන්ගේ ශාසන හිතකාමී වැඩපිළිවෙළ විස්තර කෙරෙනවා. එම ලිපියට අනුව පෘතුගීසි ආක්රමණ හමුවේ ලංකාව අරාජික නොවී උඩරට රජවීමට කොනප්පු බණ්ඩාරට (පසුව විමලධර්මසූරිය) උපකාර කළේ රතනාලංකාර හිමියන් බව සඳහන්. විහාරය අසල පිහිටා ඇති පොකුණ අලංකාරයි. එය නෙළුම්මලින් ගැවසී තිබෙනවා.
උඩරට මූර්ති ශිල්පයට නිදසුන් සපයන මෙහි ප්රතිමා මන්දිරය පොකුණට නුදුරින් දැකගත හැකියි. මකර තොරණ සහිත බුද්ධ ප්රතිමාවකින් සහ බිතුසිතුවම්වලින් එය සරසා තිබෙනවා. පිළිමගෙයට නුදුරින් පිහිටා ඇත්තේ දාගැබයි. මේ දාගැබ කඩුගන්නාව කඳු තරණය කරන විටත් අපට පේනවා. පර්වතයේ එක් කොණක පිහිටා ඇත්තේ මහනුවර යුගයට වඩා පැරණි කාලයකට අයත් කළුගල් විහාරයක නටබුන්. මෙම ශෛලමය ගොඩනැගිල්ල ගෙඩිගේ සම්ප්රදායේ ගොඩනැගිල්ලක්. එය දිගින් අඩි 32ක් ද පළලින් අඩි 21ක් ද වෙනවා.
විහාරයට නුදුරින් පර්වත බෑවුම පටන් ගන්නා ස්ථානයේම සිරිපතුල් ගලක් කැටයම් කර තිබෙනවා. සිරිපතුලේ දිග අඩි 7ක්. එහි මඟුල් ලකුණු කැටයම් කර තිබෙනවා. සිරිපතුලට නුදුරින් පළමුවන විමලධර්මසූරිය රජුගේ සෙල්ලිපිය කොටා තිබෙනවා.
මෙහි ඓතිහාසිකත්වය ඔප් නංවන පළමුවෙනි පරාක්රමබාහුගේ සෙල්ලිපිය කොටා තිබෙන්නේ පර්වතයේ උතුරු බෑවුමේ. එය දැකගැනීමට නම් පර්වතය පහළට පියගැට පේළිය දිගේ බැසිය යුතුයි.
