The first Agriculture Committee of the year 2025 met at the District Secretariat today (21) morning under the chairmanship of District Secretary Ranjana Jayasinghe.

Main Objectives of the Internal Affairs Unit
The Internal Affairs Unit of every institution is expected to achieve the following objectives:
i. Prevent corruption and develop a culture of integrity within the institution.
ii. Ensure transparency and accountability in all activities of the institution and ensure public access to information related to institutional activities and decisions.
iii. Promote ethical governance within the institution.
iv. Develop a safe and accessible mechanism to encourage the reporting of misconduct, protect whistleblowers and maintain confidentiality.
v. To assist in the enforcement of laws in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and the Commission for the Investigation of Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
Responsibilities and Functions of the Internal Affairs Unit
The following specific responsibilities and functions are assigned to the Internal Affairs Unit to ensure proactive, clear and focused anti-corruption efforts targeting key elements of corporate integrity.
I. Reviewing current procedures and circulars to identify systemic bottlenecks within the organization and simplifying them to enhance operational efficiency.
II. Identifying areas of vulnerability to corruption and unethical behavior within the organization through conducting Corruption Risk Assessments and taking targeted preventive measures.
III. Developing and implementing a corporate compliance action plan that includes specific anti-corruption objectives and strategies tailored to the needs of the organization.
IV. Aligning institutional policies and practices with the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan and complying with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy.
V. Conducting Compliance Assessments to assess the institution’s compliance with national and international anti-corruption laws, including the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023, and identifying areas for improvement.
VI. Ensuring compliance with asset declaration requirements for all public officials and employees and managing conflicts of interest in accordance with the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission Regulations and the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023.
VII. Establishing a secure system for receiving and managing complaints related to corruption and unethical conduct within the institution, ensuring that all such complaints are dealt with promptly by the relevant officers or units, and providing regular updates to relevant stakeholders who make inquiries, ensuring transparency and accountability. As necessary, refer relevant facts, findings or information to the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission for investigation under the Anti-Corruption Act.
VIII. Develop and publish a Citizens’ Charter describing the services provided by the institution.
IX. Establish and enforce policies that promote ethical governance, including a standardized code of conduct to be followed by public officials.
X. Take other measures, including training and awareness raising, to motivate staff to adhere to anti-corruption principles.
XI. Act as the institutional focal point for the National Anti-Corruption Integrity Assessment, ensuring that the institution participates in and aligns with the integrity assessment activities conducted by the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission and the National Anti-Corruption Framework.
XII. Maintain liaison with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for ongoing guidance and support in the performance of the Unit’s duties.
XIII. Prepare periodic and annual reports summarizing the activities of the Internal Affairs Unit, progress of anti-corruption initiatives, challenges faced and recommendations for future actions.
XIV. Prepare and implement plans to enhance compliance with the participation of private sector stakeholders.

A project to establish king coconut villages is currently being implemented across the island with the aim of increasing Sri Lanka's foreign exchange through the promotion of king coconut cultivation to meet the demand. Currently eight king coconut villages are expected to be established in Kegalle district and the target of king coconut cultivation in the district is four thousand saplings.

The Inter-Provincial Wrestling (Female/Male) Tournament held in conjunction with the 48th National Sports Festival-2024 jointly organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Department of Sports Development was successfully held on June 01 and 02 at the Kegalle Indoor Stadium.
The Kegalle district program of the series of awareness and training of trainers programs conducted by the Ministry of Environment at the district level with the aim of informing various sectors and the public regarding the Indoor Air Quality Guidelines was held today (31) under the chairmanship of Kegalle Additional District Secretary (Lands) Mr. Dilip Nishantha.
A road race was organized today (05 31, 2024) by the Samurdhi Division of the Kegalle District Secretariat with the participation of competitors above the age of 17 to give a pre-publicity to the International Anti-Tobacco and Drug Day flag program in 2024. According to the instructions of the Samurdhi Development Department, this marathon race, which was held with the participation of the athletes who won the first place in the road races of the Samurdhi Bank New Year celebrations, had received the supervision and support of the district sports officials.
The second agriculture committee of the year 2024 met today (28) in the morning at the district secretariat auditorium under the chairmanship of the district secretary/district governor Mr. Ranjana Jayasinghe.
